On Thursday morning, October 10, 2024, the body of renowned industrialist Ratan Tata was transported from his residence in a hearse adorned with white flowers to the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in South Mumbai. There, it would be available for the public to pay their final respects.
Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, passed away at the age of 86 on the night of Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at a Mumbai hospital. He had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Monday, October 7, 2024, due to age-related health issues and to stabilize his blood pressure.
Following his death, tributes poured in from across India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, describing Tata as a “visionary business leader, compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being.” The Congress party also issued a statement, mourning the loss of Tata. They referred to him as a “titan of Indian industry and a philanthropist” who significantly influenced India’s corporate landscape. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honor in India, recognizing his contributions to both business and society.
