Trailer Talk: Ruining Horror Comedy Cult Classic of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
The trailer for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the much-awaited third film in the franchise, was finally released on October 9. Kartik Aaryan reprises his role as Rooh Baba, and Vidya Balan returns as the iconic ‘Manjulika.’ The trailer also features prominent actors like Madhuri Dixit, Tripti Dimri, and Rajpal Yadav. It begins by introducing Vidya Balan’s Manjulika, a curse upon the town of ‘Raktghat,’ and then shifts focus to Rooh Baba, who appears to have made a habit of conning people by exploiting their fear of spirits. However, things take a dark turn when Rooh Baba gets involved in helping the ‘king’ rid the town of Manjulika.
Madhuri Dixit’s character also claims to be Manjulika, sparking a humorous conflict with Vidya Balan’s character. The trailer attempts to blend comedy and horror, but viewers have expressed dissatisfaction, finding the humor bland and the horror over-the-top. Social media reactions have been mixed, with one user on X stating, “Comedy looks bland. Horror looks over the top. Ye kya bana diya bhai,” while another added, “It just seems like a collection of gags & physical comedy, taking away from what made the OG special!”
Many fans are missing Akshay Kumar’s energy, feeling that while Kartik Aaryan performs decently, he doesn’t quite fill Akshay’s shoes. Critics also felt that Madhuri Dixit and Vidya Balan went overboard with their performances, making the horror feel exaggerated, while Tripti Dimri appeared out of place in much of the trailer. Although some of the dialogues are quirky and humorous, they don’t quite match the charm of the first film.
Despite the return of fan-favorite characters like Vidya Balan and Rajpal Yadav, only time will tell if Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 can meet the high expectations when it releases this Diwali!
